Hello and welcome to our farm! I hope you will take the time to explore our site and learn about our family farm here in the New River Valley of Virginia. This blog will be a place for our family to share a little bit more about ourselves and the goings-on here at Oaknoll. I hope you’ll check in from time to time to see what we’re up to and say hi yourself!

I am Catherine Obenshain Piche, the youngest granddaughter of Sam and Jo Obenshain. My family and I live here in Blacksburg, not on the farm, but nearby, and we enjoy being on the farm whenever we can. I will be writing some of the entries here, but our hope is that many family members will take over from time to time to share a bit about their experiences, past and present, here on the farm. I recently moved back to Blacksburg, having not lived here since I was three years old, so it’s been a reintroduction, and I am loving being able to take a greater role in the management of the farm.

I’ve always said this is my “happy place”, my favorite spot in the world, and maybe from the pictures you can see why. On a misty morning when the fog covers the creeks and the pond and hides Brush Mountain from view, or during one of the thousands of gorgeous sunsets with the sky in bands of purple and pink and the swifts swooping over the fields, I just know I’m the luckiest person in the world to have stayed in this beautiful place, and I’m forever grateful to my grandparents for building it. I hope you will have a chance to “visit”, either in person or online, and see why for yourself!
